The first race is the Kentucky Derby, and is probably the most popular horse race in the U.S. The race takes place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky and is a 1 1/4 mile long. The Preakness Stakes follows the Kentucky Derby and takes place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The Preakness Stakes is the shortest of the 3 races at 1 and 3/16 miles long. The Belmont Stakes is the 3rd and final leg of the Triple Crown. The race is held at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and covers 1 and 1/2 miles.
