The final tip in our 2020 LoL Worlds Predictions has to do with spending. The League of Legends World Championship is the biggest tournament in the LoL esports scene, so many punters take it as a cue to make high-stakes wagers. Yet, the principal rules of bankroll management remain the same. LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021. With the 2020 LOL World Championship closed, it is time to start concentrating on 2021. North America has played host to three of our past eight League of Legends World Championships. Because the North American LCS continues to develop aboard team partners, we are excited to come to the region in 2021.

They say “good things come in threes.” Or is it “bad things come in threes?” Both statements are somewhat popular, according to the vast resources of the internet, but can they both be true at once?

If you’re a player at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship, the answer is yes. The best-of-five format of the knockout stage means that you need three wins to advance, or three losses to be sent home. In the quarterfinals, which were played last weekend, every series ended 3-1.

Making it to quarters is no small feat, of course, but the teams at Worlds hope for more. In the upcoming semifinals, there’s even farther to fall. Here are the matches that League of Legends fans are looking forward to this weekend.

Saturday, Nov. 2: Invictus Gaming (IG) vs. FunPlus Phoenix (FPX)

Prediction: IG, 3-2

In the quarterfinals teaser video, FPX’s mid laner, Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang, describes the matches as a “battle between the younger teams and the older teams.” He stands beside three players from those younger teams: Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu (DAMWON Gaming), Marek “Humanoid” Brázda (Splyce), and Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong (Griffin). Of those four, only Doinb remains in the competition.

In this battle of the League of Legends Pro League, which is China’s competitive circuit, it could be anyone’s game. With 2018 world champions IG against FPX, the region’s first seed, this series is sure to be hard-fought — and to draw record-breaking viewership from the Chinese fanbase.

FPX has one star at the center of its solar system: Doinb. The mid laner is known for his unusual playstyle, picking off-meta champions and making them work. The team has found immense success playing around his synergy with jungler Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang, using their mastery of the early game to earn its wins.

IG, on the other hand, has twin suns. Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok in the top lane and mid laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin are capable of deciding entire games on their own, as we saw in IG’s games against Team Liquid in the group stage and Griffin in the quarterfinals.

Although IG can be a victim of its own aggression, the team has proven that when it counts, it’s unstoppable. Furthermore, the team’s experience might pay off in this matchup. Not a single member of FPX has attended Worlds, while IG retains its entire championship-winning roster from 2018.

If IG can keep it cool, the returning champions will take one more step toward reclaiming its throne.

Sunday, Nov. 3: SK Telecom T1 (SKT) vs. G2 Esports (G2)

Prediction: SKT, 3-2

At the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, G2 eliminated SKT from the semifinals (3-2) to go on and take the international title. After a season apart, the two titans will have their rematch.

G2 is widely touted as the best European team that the world has ever seen. After star mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther was added to the roster at the start of the season, team captain Luka “Perkz” Perković made waves when he swapped from mid to bot.

With five of Europe’s most talented players on board, the move has paid off. G2 demonstrates incredible flexibility and confidence onstage (and in post-game interviews), leading some to call them the tournament favorites. After a somewhat unexpected second-place finish in groups, the Europeans have a lot to live up to.

G2 not the only one with something to prove, though. SKT mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who hit his 100th international win during quarterfinals (almost 30 games ahead of the player with the second-most victories), is still the greatest of all time and he’s back at Worlds after missing the tournament in 2018.

After a roster overhaul at the end of 2018, this “super team” iteration might be SKT’s strongest yet. The three-time world champions are in top form, and they’re looking for revenge.

It’s hard to say who will come out on top in this matchup, but with SKT’s first-place finish in the toughest group of 2019, the team might be in better shape to take the win on its way to a fourth title.
