Best money in the bank ladder matches

The Money in the Bank briefcase match/matches are, as always, the biggest source of intrigue for this event. Both matches have their split of former champions and those who have never won a major title. Is Money in the Bank Always the Smarter Bet? For a homeowner, a fat savings account might indicate it’s time to weigh other options for that cash.

On Sunday, May 10th, the WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV will take place from two locations and feature at least six matches that includes two MITB ladder matches where wrestlers have to make their way up to the roof of the WWE headquarters.

Money in the Bank will begin at 7 PM ET on the WWE Network and there will be taped matches from WWE’s “Titan Towers” in Stamford, Connecticut, and live in-ring action from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Sports betting sites with WWE odds have released odds on the six announced matches and a variety of prop bets for this show. Let’s walk that aisle, climb through those ring ropes, and attack these WWE bets before the bell even rings.

SmackDown Tag Team Title 4-Way Match

  • The New Day (+100)
  • John Morrison & The Miz (+125)
  • The Forgotten Sons (+250)
  • The Lucha House Party (+500)

Count me as one of the many critics who found it disappointing when the WWE took the SmackDown tag titles off of Morrison and Miz a few weeks ago just to give the belts back to The New Day for their eighth reign.

Miz & Morrison were much more entertaining and deserved a longer title run than roughly 50 days. It was so anticlimactic that the WWE changed the belts on an episode of SmackDown as if it would bring more viewers to the sinking ratings.

I’ll save the longwinded rant about that title change and try to focus on the chaotic tag team scene on SmackDown that’s produced this fatal four-way match.

Typically, these matches are great opportunities for the WWE to take the belt off of a champion without hurting their value in the eyes of the fans.

With that in mind, the question that everyone is asking is whether or not the WWE will take the titles off The New Day after only holding the belts for three weeks.

Although it makes little sense to play “hot potato” with the titles, the SmackDown tag team championship belts have seen quick changes with owners numerous times in their brief history.

Since the creation of the belts nearly four years ago, there have been six different title reigns where the champions lost the belts in less than four weeks. Most recently, The Hardy Boyz vacated the belts in April 2019 due to Jeff Hardy’s knee injury.

In regards to The New Day, their shortest title reign came in the fall of 2017, when the held the belts for just 25 days. If they lose these belts on Sunday then it would be a 23 day title reign, which would be tied for the second shortest of all-time.

In other words, I do see the WWE taking the belts off of The New Day and crowning new champions at MITB.

Which Team Gets Pinned?

  • The Lucha House Party (-300)
  • John Morrison & The Miz (+300)
  • The Forgotten Sons (+300)
  • The New Day (+450)

Now, before I predict a winner, let’s take a look at the prop bet that asks which tag team will take the pinfall in this match.

As you can see from the odds above, The Lucha House Party is a large betting favorite over the rest of the tag teams and rightfully so. In the pecking order of this division, Lucha House Party is at the bottom of the ladder.

I don’t see the champs getting pinned nor do I see The Forgotten Sons taking the pinfall. The WWE will protect both teams. There is value in Morrison and Miz losing the match as I can see The Miz doing the job. So, if you want to take a flier on the former champs than make it a small one.

The smart play is on the talented Lucha House Party who are nothing more than glorified jobbers in the division.

Who Wins the SmackDown Tag Team Titles?

We can eliminate both the Lucha House Party since they will take the pinfall and The New Day since I believe the WWE will change the titles over to a new team on Sunday.

Of the two remaining teams, it feels like the WWE has found their new flavor of the month in The Forgotten Sons and this match would be a great way to solidify them as a legitimate tag team by having them win the belts.

Although I would prefer to see The Miz and Morrison win, and have a lengthy title reign, I’m taking The Forgotten Sons to win this match.

Lucha House Party gets pinned (-300)

SmackDown Women’s Title Match

  • (c)Bayley (-500)
  • Tamina (+300)

This is the least interesting match on the entire card. Yes, I expect the WWE to add more matches on the pre-show and to the event, but it’s hard to imagine any being more uninteresting than this one.

I’ve enjoyed Bayley’s run as the champion as she’s become one of the best characters on SmackDown. I admit, I wasn’t a fan of her title run at first, but she’s won me over. This current reign has lasted since October 2019 and we’re approaching the seven month mark on Sunday.

If you combined her two title reigns, she’s held the title for 11 months. That’s more than any other women’s superstar including wrestlers like Charlotte Flair (193 days) and Becky Lynch (216 days).

As for Tamina, she’s never held a women’s title. The only title she’s ever carried was the WWE 24/7 belt for a brief moment. Despite her in-ring believability and her lineage, Tamina has never been viewed as a world champion for the company. She’s better suited for the tag team belts.

Method of Victory

  • Pinfall/Submission (-500)
  • Other (+300)

This match will either end via Tamina picking up the DQ victory due to Sasha Banks helping out her BFF or this match ends via Bayley getting the pinfall due to Banks’ assistance.

The smart money is on Bayley picking up the pinfall victory due to assistance from Sasha Banks.

Will Bayley’s World Title Reign Continue?

The general consensus is that Bayley will end up in a feud with Sasha Banks that culminates in a big time match at SummerSlam. That will be when Bayley loses the title. Tamina is nothing more than another stepping stone for the Bayley and Banks feud.

It would be the biggest surprise of the show if the WWE had Tamina win. With that said, there’s no swerving here. It’s going to be Bayley walking away, or running away, with the title. As you can see, there’s no real betting value with this match at all.

Match ends via pinfall or submission (-500)

Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match Winner

Best money in the bank matches ever
  • Shayna Baszler (-150)
  • Nia Jax (+300)
  • Lacey Evans (+400)
  • Asuka (+600)
  • Dana Brooke (+700)
  • Carmella (+1000)

This match is loaded with talent. However, it’s pretty clear that some of the competitors don’t have a realistic shot at winning this contest. So, the best way to pick a winner for matches like this is by taking a process of elimination approach.

It’s safe to say that wrestlers like Carmella, Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans won’t be winning this match. It’s not that they don’t have the talent to, they’re just not positioned in storylines to win a high profile match like this.

In Carmella’s case, she won the first two women’s MITB ladder matches, but isn’t on the same level as she was back in 2016 and 2017. She’s also the only competitor who’s actually been in an MITB ladder match. The other five women have never competed in an MITB ladder match before.

In addition to the three women mentioned above, I also believe that Asuka can be safely eliminated from the options of winning this match. I’m a fan of Asuka, but the WWE doesn’t view her as a top-tier star like they do Lynch, Charlotte, Bayley, Banks, and Baszler.

By eliminating four of the six competitors, we’re left with Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax as the potential winners. Before, we pick the winner, let’s knockout the following WWE prop bet for the match.

Bet Money In The Bank

Which Brand Wins the Match?

  • RAW (-750)
  • SmackDown (+400)

The winner is going to come from Shayna Baszler or Nia Jax and both of these superstars are on RAW. So, although there’s no value with the line of -750, RAW is clearly the winning pick for this prop bet.

Who Wins Between Jax and Baszler?

Nia Jax has looked like a beast since returning from injuries. However, Shayna Baszler has been locked in as the woman to eventually dethrone Becky Lynch as the RAW women’s champion.

Since Baszler suffered a fluke defeat to Lynch at WrestleMania 36, having Shayna win the MITB briefcase and torment Lynch for the next few months makes a lot of sense. I can see Baszler cashing in at SummerSlam and winning the belt then.

For this match, take Shayna Baszler to win. The only other competitor worthy of a small flier would be Nia Jax (+300).

RAW brand wins match (-750)

WWE Universal Title Match

  • (c)Braun Strowman (-130)
  • Bray Wyatt (-110)

Former Wyatt Family members square off on Sunday for the Universal Title in a match that does have intrigue. As you can see by the odds listed for this bout, it’s unclear as to which direction the WWE will take this match.

For starters, Bray Wyatt is wrestling as himself and not as The Fiend. So, that is an “out” for the creative team to have him lose since he wasn’t his powerful alter ego. Instead, he was himself. Although he beat The Miz as himself, Strowman is the champ and much more powerful than The Miz.

As for the champion, it could be damaging for Strowman if the WWE decides to take the belt off of him so soon. Other than Goldberg, and Balor’s injury shortened reign, no other Universal Champion has held the belt for less than two months. Strowman is at the six week mark as he won the title at WM 36.

The third option for this match is to not have a winner and somehow have Wyatt disappear, escape or the lights go out and we hear his laugh as the MITB show ends.

Method of Victory

  • Pinfall/Submission (-190)
  • Other (+134)

As much as I would like to see this match end without a winner, the WWE will most likely have the contest end via pinfall or submission. Either way, I expect this feud to continue to SummerSlam.

Will the Champ Retain the Title?

  • Yes (-185)
  • No (+175)

I’m a fan of Bray Wyatt and wish that the WWE never took the belt off of him when they had Goldberg win a few months ago. It was a terrible idea and it damaged his gimmick. With that said, I don’t see the non-Fiend Bray Wyatt winning this bout.

The WWE went with Strowman to be the champion because Roman Reigns was unavailable for WM 36. Currently, there’s no timetable for Reigns’ return. So, they took a well-deserving superstar and gave him a chance to help carry the blue brand.

All of that would come crashing down if the WWE decided to have Strowman lose to the “Mr. Rogers” version of Bray Wyatt.

I believe we’re going to see Strowman win the match via pinfall. Eventually, this will set up a feud between Strowman and The Fiend probably culminating in a bout at SummerSlam where The Fiend will win the title back.

For this match, take Strowman to win the match and retain the title.

Strowman retains the title (-185), Match ends via pinfall/submission (-190)

WWE World Title Match

  • Drew McIntyre (-700)
  • Seth Rollins (+400)

Drew McIntyre comes into this match as a heavy betting favorite that offers no value whatsoever. Rollins is a large underdog who in the past could be considered worthy of a flier, but not at this point in time.

Best Money In The Bank Match

Just like with Strowman, it would be catastrophic for the WWE to take the belt off of McIntyre so soon after his monumental win over Brock Lesnar at WM 36.

Even though Rollins is considered one of the top stars in the company, it would be a massive mistake to have “The Monday Night Messiah” win this match.

Rollins is positioned as the top heel on RAW, but his loss to Kevin Owens at WM 36 has sent him down a path where he’s no longer considered an immediate threat to win the belt. Instead, Rollins will most likely end up in a non-title feud with someone else after this PPV.

Method of Victory

  • Pinfall/Submission (-450)
  • Other (+280)

Neither man is known for being a submission artist. Furthermore, both men use their feet to end their respective matches. With that in mind, I don’t see any possibility that this bout ends with anything other than a pinfall victory.

Number of Claymore Kicks

  • Over 1.5 (-200)
  • Under 1.5 (+140)

At WM 36, McIntyre delivered four claymore kicks to Brock Lesnar in order to win the match. Even if WWE considers Rollins to be half of the man that Lesnar is, that still puts the odds of McIntyre hitting at least two claymores on Rollins in this match.

I don’t see Rollins going down easy, so it’s a safe bet that McIntyre will need two or three claymores subdue his opponent.

Will the Champ Retain the Title?

  • Yes (-1250)
  • No (+550)

In short, the answer is clearly “Yes.” This first part of 2020 has been built exclusively for McIntyre to become the new face of RAW. There’s nothing to think that will change anytime in the near future. In fact, I expect a lengthy title reign for “The Scottish Psychopath.”

Match ends via pinfall/submission (-450), McIntyre retains the title (-1250)

Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match Winner

  • AJ Styles (-125)
  • Aleister Black (+200)
  • Otis (+400)
  • Daniel Bryan (+600)
  • Baron Corbin (+800)
  • Rey Mysterio (+1200)

This is probably going to be the best match of the show especially if the rumors of someone falling off the roof of the WWE headquarters come true.

Additionally, this match was taped already and done so in the same Hollywood style that the WWE filmed both the boneyard match and the Firefly Funhouse match at WrestleMania 36. So, I expect this ladder match to be very entertaining.

With that said, we can definitely start this off by eliminating Rey Mysterio and Baron Corbin. Neither man is a credible option to win a match of this magnitude. So, that leaves us with Bryan, Otis, Black and Styles to choose from.

Which Brand Wins the Match?

  • RAW (-200)
  • SmackDown (+140)

The two favorites for this match both wrestle on RAW, which means that the odds are in favor of the red show winning this high profile contest. RAW has also won the last two MITB men’s ladder matches and there really is no reason to think they won’t make it a third straight.

Will a Babyface or Heel Win the Match?

  • Babyfaces (-150)
  • Heels (+110)

The babyfaces for this match are: Aleister Black, Otis, Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio.

The heels in this contest are AJ Styles and Baron Corbin.

In addition to Corbin and Mysterio, I believe that Daniel Bryan and Otis can be eliminated. Bryan is destined to feud with Sami Zayn for the IC belt and doesn’t need to win this briefcase to become a contender for the title.

Otis is probably one year away from winning this match. Next year could be his year. Plus, he’s already a winner with Mandy Rose by his side, which is better than any WWE title or contract.

That leaves us with Black and Styles, who are both on RAW. Now, you can see why I picked the RAW option in the prop bet above.

Prior to the inclusion of AJ Styles into this storyline, I was 100% sure that Aleister black was going to win the MITB ladder match. Like Otis, he’s primed for a big singles push and this contract would be the perfect launching pad for Black to become a major star on RAW or SmackDown.

With that said, I can’t see Styles being included in this contest only to have him lose. Of all the wrestlers in this match, Styles is the best positioned to win the contract and try to cash it in. Plus, McIntyre will need a credible foe after the Rollins feud ends. Styles fits that bill perfectly.

Furthermore, Styles needs to be pushed again after losing to The Undertaker at WM 36. Additionally, since his running mates in Gallows and Anderson have been released from the company, Styles needs to be put in the spotlight again as a major star.

Black’s time will come, but everything points to Styles winning this match and chasing after the WWE title until he finds the right time to cash in. Bettors can cash in on Styles winning not only with his -125 odds, but also the prop bet where the Heels win at (+110). That’s great value for both options.

RAW wins the match (-200), The Heels win the match (+110)

WWE MITB Props

In addition to individual matches, there are some prop bets for the overall Money in the Bank PPV:

Will AJ Styles and Shayna Baszler Win Their Ladder Matches?

  • Yes (+175)
  • No (-250)

By my logic and predictions above, I believe AJ Styles and Shayna Baszler will both win the MITB ladder matches, which comes with a great payout of +175.

The odds are against both of these superstars winning, but I feel pretty confident that both will climb the corporate ladder, capture the contract, and terrorize their champion of choice.

Combined Ladder Match Results

  • RAW goes 2-0 (-180)
  • Both Brands Win One Each (+134)
  • SmackDown goes 2-0 (+850)

Since I believe both Baszler and Styles will win that means RAW is going to sweep the ladder matches. For the women’s match, it’s clearly going to be a RAW women’s competitor wining. For the men, there is a small case that can be made for SmackDown’s Otis or Bryan, but I just don’t see it happening.

Bet Money On Football Games

With that said, sports betting sites also like the idea of RAW winning both matches since that option is the odds on favorite at -180.

Boo! You see a ghost? Nope.
Just the next Mr. #MITB!

Final Thoughts on WWE Money In the Bank

Despite having no live crowds, I’m still excited for this PPV. I believe there’s a great chance that the two ladder matches are a huge success due to the WWE filming them like movies instead of live in-ring action like the rest of the card.

Speaking of the MITB card, don’t be surprised if the WWE adds at least two more matches to this event. They’re notorious for putting on filler matches before the actual PPV even starts.

With the numerous betting options available for Money in the Bank, WWE bettors will not only be able to enjoy sports entertainment action, but also the sports betting action as well.
